MURPHY'S COUNTRY
TUESDAY 7PM-9PM

Eamonn Murphy country music to country music was in the late 60s, when I heard a bluegrass group called The Smokey Mountain Ramblers. The 1st singer I remember dancing to was Philomena Begley in the Kildara Hotel, Kildare town, from then on it was Big Tom, Brian Coll, plus lots of other country bands that visited the dance halls in the West of Ireland. The Lisdoonvarna Folk Festival around 1980 & the visit of Emmylou Harris with her hit at the time “Roses in the Snow” made an impact. In the late 80s and 90s a lot of pirate radio stations were up and running in the country, before the Government closed them down, I started in a station called “Country Gold” run by Country Bob Murphy it was near Daly’s Cross on the Dublin Rd. Later I presented on Galtee Radio, Irish Country Radio & a few years on a Community Radio Station in Kilkee, Co. Clare. “All were live & on F.M”. Then eleven years on Irishcountrymusicradio up to January 2021. I have been pre-recording a two hour country show called “Murphy’s Country” for quite a number of years including Country Music from different parts of the world and can be listened to on my f/b page & Murphy’s Country Facebook Page at any time. Thank You. Eamonn Murphy.
